July / August 2021 Fishing Report

July and now into August have seen some exceptional days of sport.

Warm overcast days have seen good hatches of insects with plenty of trout surface feeding.
In bright conditions trout have been caught deeper in the lake.

The largest rainbow of the month was caught by Mr Jewel, of Launceston, landed a good brace containing a 5lb rainbow fishing a whiskey fly pattern.   

Mr Twine, of Liskeard had a lovely rainbow tipped the scales at 4lb 7oz. The trout was taken on a dry stimulator pattern.
Mr Twine’s eight fish bag totalled 17lb 1oz. with other fish in the bag caught on boobies and buzzers.

Mr Girling, of Mount Hawke, had an exceptional day landing fifteen rainbows for 26lb 11oz caught on various flies including a dawsons olive, cat’s whisker and a blue flash damsel.

During two visits to the fishery, Mr Elphick, of Lostwithiel, accompanied by Mr. Elphick senior, landed 15 rainbows weighing 29lb caught on a white booby fished slowly just below the surface of the lake. 

June / July 2020 Fishing Report

July has been variable in conditions but anglers braving the elements have been rewarded.

On the cooler overcast days buzzers and dry flies have been productive.
On brighter hot days sinking or intermediate lines worked well fished with nymphs and mini lures.

 Mr. J. Twine, of Liskeard, landed a good brace of rainbows one of which was the largest rainbow of the month at 3lb 6oz. The brace was taken on a dry fly and weighed in at 5lb 10oz.
Mr. S. Cooper, of North Devon, landed a good five fish bag for 15lb fishing a Cat’s Whisker.
Mr. A. Valence, of Holsworthy, landed a four fish bag for 9lb 15oz fishing a Viva and Brown Montana.
